How to Hire an Artist for a Commission.
What is a commission?
Hiring an artist for commission, simply means you make an agreement for a specific and often very special piece of art you want to be created by that artist.
How does commissioning an artist work?
Here is what you need to know.
- Inquire with your preferred artist
- Consult and determine if you come to a mutual agreement
- The artist should always provide you with a contract stipulating the size, subject, price, shipping, payment terms, and any other necessary information.
- When working with me, and most artists, a 50% upfront deposit is required
- Upon the contract agreement, I provide a sketch either in pencil or a quick painting study.
- Unless otherwise specified, I communicate frequently with my collector during the process often getting their approval before I continue to the next step.
- Upon final approval, the remaining balance is due.
- Once final payment clears the bank, your artwork will be insured and shipped to you.
- I send tracking numbers so that you know when to expect your art to arrive.
Things to note
The rough sketch and painting sketches are very rough. They are for layout, composition, and an idea of color harmony. Basically, it’s a rough idea resembling the final painting without the details. Since this is a rough sketch in the early development phase, the details do not show at this step.
For example, here is an example of a rough sketch of a Staghorn Fern Commission and how it developed along the way.
These are a few examples of some of the other commissions I’ve been hired to complete.
Commissions make wonderful gifts to yourself, a friend, or a loved one. As in the Staghorn painting above, they can also be a wonderful memorial in honor of someone who has passed. They can be small or large. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. https://tinasfinearts.com/contact/
