Assembling Canvas Support Braces

Many activities are involved in running an art business. For example, here you can see me assembling canvas support braces for an extra-large canvas.  As a general rule of thumb, any works over 36″ should have support braces. 

Pictured above are some of the items needed. Note (a fully charged drill battery). My kids unplugged the charger for their phones. Sigh. 

• Tape measure or large ruler
• Drill
• Marking Pencil
• Support Braces
• Brackets and screws to attach support braces
• Sanding Paper
• Protective cardboard

After centering my measurements, I attach the brackets included with the Best Heavy Duty Cross Braces by Jack Richeson. I like their quality but did have to sand down one bar a little bit because it was a pinch too long.

If you attempt this on your own, please use something to protect the back of your work. After all, you don’t want a slip to ruin all of your hard work on the canvas.
