Artist Behind the Scenes

Hello and welcome to my art blog.

Today I want to take you behind the scenes to have a look at some of the things that occur in my art business.

Art Supply Inventory

This is some recent unpacking and inventory I did. Thankfully I did because my supplier who is wonderful was actually 6 stretcher bars short.

Also, I had problems dealing with the brand of stretcher bars I use because the newly milled stretch bars aren’t properly fitting with the previous ones. I’m still working on addressing this issue.

The next step is assembling the stretcher bars and making sure that the angles match.  Otherwise, one side could be a little bit longer than the other affecting potential future framing projects and balanced appearance.

I really do enjoy stretching my own canvases. However, it is time-consuming and starting to be difficult with my hands as arthritis progresses. If you are an artist looking to stretch your own canvases, I’ve created this video to help.

I learned early on that picture wire is the best method for hanging canvases because it allows you to make adjustments upon hanging. I use coated stainless steel picture wire on the back of my paintings which ensures the longevity of the materials used.

Tip

If your pictures are hanging crooked then you can use 2 different picture hooks to catch the pitcher wire and that will help stabilize it and straighten the artwork.

This is just part of what goes into a painting and running an art business. Now off to bookkeeping for tax season. I’m eager to paint again and have a new series coming soon.

Wishing you all the best

Tina Adams SToffel

Tina Stoffel

As seen reflected in her paintings Tina A Stoffel connects deeply with nature, animals, and music. As explained in her upcoming book, creating art has been Tina's lifelong passion. She says creating art has a meditative effect, bringing her peace and happiness where time often seems to disappear. Tina's goal is creating work that brings that same peace and happiness to others along with generating environmental and animal awareness. Her subjects are primarily focused around seascapes, beaches, wildlife and animals. She takes great pride in the quality of her work, often stretching her own canvases and using professional quality artist materials.
